We are living in a noisy world and people are dealing with all sorts of issues and it gets overwhelming at times. Work is a crucial part of life and learning to cope with all personalities at work is crucial.
It’s good to realize that people have different dispositions and temperaments. This generally directly influences their behavior. At the workplace you don’t have the privilege to walk away or to disengage. What you need to learn are the social soft skills to cope.
It’s important first to understand yourself before learning to cope with others. What is your temperament blend? Are you introvert or extroverted, your strength’s and weakness?
When you do this introspection then boom…you are now ready to handle others. Use the Keirsey temperament sorter (Myers – Briggs) just goggle it. It’s a self-assessment personality questionnaire designed to help you understand yourself.
Here are Some helpful tips
1. Be a Team Player
In a team there are both introverts and extroverts and in all of these blends the goal is to deliver good work. Stay close with the team without staying in the shadow’s. Respect every team member and listen to the opinions of all the members, and offer help where you can.
For introverts it’s a bit challenging for them to work in this team set-up. Interestingly enough most of the introverts have good ideas. it’s good to encourage them to share their ideas. This creates a collaborative work environment for everyone.
2. Interpersonal Skills
After doing a good introspection of yourself been flexible and accommodative is not an exception. You may feel uncomfortable around some people but learn to adapt to their work preference’s. If they prefer meetings than phone conversations adapt to that.
Do not take things personally rather seek to find out the problem if there is conflict. Create a positive environment despite the hostility which some team members might display by been empathetic.
When team members create hostility work is delayed and it affects the work quality. Some conflicts are best ignored and priority given more to the work. Weigh which conflicts to handle and which ones to ignore.
3. Leadership
Modelling leadership qualities to your co-workers is a good skill as opposed of telling them what to do. Leadership is not necessarily telling people what to do. You can motivate the team to work by setting your own example as a diligent worker with strong leadership qualities of responsibility.
4. Create Humor
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy! Have the chit chats that break the routines.Everybody enjoys light moments at work. Laughter breaks tension and conflicts and reduces stress.
5.Good Judgement
Learning to adapt to good judgements on responses and reactions and making good decisions is key. Developing good listening skills and avoiding negative criticism adapting to constructive criticism.
In final thoughts when workers adapt good soft skills in the work place careers are enhanced. Individual and corporate success is inevitable and a positive attitude in the teams is achieved.
