Fear is a crippling emotion that paralyzes action and what I've actually realized is that most of the things we fear never happen at all! Our distorted thought processes generate irrational fear that kills our potential of achieving our dreams.

What are you afraid of? Very provoking question. Everyone has some form of fear if genuine introspection is to be carried out. Unfortunately, most of us fear to confront this negative emotion and we allow fear to control us while we grudgingly live in denial.

If you are reading this article do some internal supervision of yourself, and write out your fears and set out a plan on how you will take gradual steps to confront that fear. If you aren't ready to face your fears then you probably won't transcend them.

Naturally, I'm a deep introvert and I like my space but the nature of my work does not allow me this privilege! I get afraid whenever I think of public speaking and hanging around crowds for long. Fortunately, I'm aware of it and I face it by doing it whenever I get the opportunity.

OK, let's have a look at some steps you can take to conquer fear:-

Awareness

You cannot confront what you are not aware of. The first step is to accept that you have been living in some sort of denial and it's time to confront that hidden fear that is causing havoc in your life. Awareness gives you a road-map to formulate an action plan.

Reading inspirational books

What you feed your mind translates into actions, so it's important to check what you feed on. I read a lot of other bloggers blogs and books addressing the things I fear. Identify the specific thing that you fear and get good literature around it because knowledge can open doors of getting rid of the fear.

Limit Media Consumption

Currently, with the COVID 19 global crisis, the media can be an unhelpful weight though it's good to be informed, the effects of the negative sensational headlines, thrive on feeding our fears. Is the media making you anxious? if it is; then filter what you are watching and spend more time with more life-giving resources.

Practice Thanksgiving

For an average person, giving thanks does not come naturally grumbling and complaining does. This is a skill that can be learned by anyone, rather than following our feelings and fears we can fight fear by thanksgiving.

The fact that you are reading this article is worth giving thanks for; eyesight, sanity and life despite all the challenges that may be staring at you. Check around yourself and identify two or three things that you can give thanks about; you will be surprised because they are countless!

Surround Yourself with Success

This can also be referred to as the law of attraction in essence, you become like the people you surround yourself with. People who are truly focused on achieving their dreams and overcoming fear surround themselves with people with the same mindset.

These are not necessarily people you look up to, but people who push you to achieve your goals. To overcome fear it's important to allow others to hold you accountable, it allows your journey in the fight easier.

Value Your Pains

It's good to admit that in the pursuit of achieving our dreams we experience pain and naturally no one likes pain. When you view pain as a profound teacher, you will embrace the lessons learned and the growth you get from such experiences.

Such experiences should not allow fear and pain to dictate how you make decisions but you should use these experiences to build courage as opposed to fear.

Accept that You'll Fail

For most people fear of failure paralyzes them from achieving their goals. Failure is a good teacher just as pain is. Everyone fails, successful business owners and world leaders but our society shuns failure and creates an impression that failure is bad fortunately, most success stories have a history of past failures.

The faster you realize that the fear of failure is preventing you from making the decision to accomplishing your dreams, the sooner you'll be able to accept the possibility of failure and to move on.

In Conclusion

How you respond to fear is what sets you apart from the crowd. Be intentional in fighting fear, least all your dreams be termed as "Wishful thinking".
